CWA Conference welcomes a powerhouse line-up FeaturedWritten by Rob Colman August, 20 2012
The third annual Canadian Welding Association (CWA) conference is scheduled for September 9-11 at the Hilton Hotel in Quebec City, and the strong line-up of keynote speakers and special sessions is sure to make it the most successful yet.
The focus of the conference is mainly on welding and NDE technologies that serve some of the primary Quebec industries: construction, aerospace, shipbuilding, energy, transportation, mining and aluminum.
“One of the top draws, we think, will be Carolyn Hanson, M.Eng., Vice-President, Engineering and Operations for the ADF Group,” says Dan Tadic, Director of CWA. “ADF Group is providing the structural steel for the new buildings being erected at the World Trade Center site.”
Other keynote speakers include Serge Dussault, VP of Engineering at CANAM Group; Jean-Francois Blouin, President – General Manager at Supermétal; and Robert Sauvé, Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Wildlife and associate secretary general in the Ministère du Conseil exécutif – the organization responsible for Plan Nord, which aims to help spur development in northern Quebec.
But beyond the heavyweights presenting during the main days of the conference, a special seminar has been arranged for September 12th. On that day, Marie Quintana, Director & Chief Engineer, Consumable R&D at Lincoln Electric, will offer a special seminar on welding high strength low alloy (HSLA) steels.
The purpose of this seminar is to provide experienced users with new insights and methods for improving weld consistency and mechanical performance, particularly for the higher strength grades. Also, this provides first time users of an HSLA steel with enough knowledge and techniques to ensure a successful transition from mild steel welding.
But Tadic also notes that the CWA wants everyone to have fun at the event. A golf tournament at Golf de la Faune has been organized, as has an awards night followed by live entertainment.
