Automotive council establishes specialty skills model
Wednesday, 13 January 2010 Written by Rob Colman
The Council for Automotive Human Resources (CAHR) has launched the Advanced Manufacturing’s Specialty-Skilled Training Models project to enhance workplace training for specialty skills in the automotive industry.
“Focusing on small- and medium-sized enterprises, the model is intended
to offer a specialty-skilled training model that can renew and revive
recognizable apprenticeships among advanced manufacturing employers
across the automotive industry,” the CAHR said.
According to the council, the model is intended to: revitalize recognizable apprenticeships through specialty-skilled training programs; assure a pipeline of specialty-skilled workers; and increase competitiveness through incumbent workers’ skills upgrading. The model builds upon international best practices from
across Canada, United States, European Union and United Kingdom. Funding for this project was provided by the Ontario government’s Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities (MTCU).
