Device dedicated to broken tool detection PDF Print E-mail
The TRS1 from Renishaw Canada is a new device dedicated to broken tool detection.  The TRS1 uses a laser beam but disepense with the beam block method of tool detection.
The tool recognition technology distinguishes between the tool and coolant or chips, making it fast and reliable under real machining conditions. Renishaw’s new system focuses a beam of laser light at the tool and monitors the scattered light that is reflected to determine if the tool has been broken. This recognition process takes a fraction of a second, ensuring that individual tools can be rapidly checked at the beginning or end of a machining cycle. The device comprises a single unit containing the laser source and detecting electronics that enables the TRS1 to be mounted outside of the working envelope, safe from collision and saving valuable space on the table.
