Press brake eliminates springback issues PDF Print E-mail
The Bystronic PR range of press brakes eliminates issues related to bend repeatability and springback caused by varying material thickness and tensile strength.
The PR range has tonnage from 66 tons to 4000 tons. The PR system (pressure referencing) consists of pressure sensors mounted in the ram’s cylinders as well as in the hydraulic manifold. These sensors are measuring pressure 4,000 times per second. Combined with pressure feedback, there are linear scales on each ram guideway to check ram position to within .0004 in. Hydraulic crowning is also part of the PR system. Upon cycle start, the ram rapids down to the switch point, then goes into feed and just touches the work: the system is able to measure the material thickness to within .0004 in. It then applies enough tonnage to make the programmed bend. At bottom dead centre (BDC), the machine backs up enough to cause a  50% drop in BDC tonnage.  The distance required for the pressure drop is measured by the scales; then the ram moves down again, this time, double the distance for the pressure drop. The springback has now been eliminated.
