Manufacturing Hall of Fame established |

After more than two years in the making, the formation of the Canadian Manufacturing Hall of Fame was recently announced at a special ceremony held at St. Clair College, Windsor, ON.
The Hall of Fame will reside in the Ford Centre for Excellence in Manufacturing, St. Clair't premier training facility for careers in the manufacturing and engineering technology sector.
It was also announced at the ceremony that Perrin Beatty, president and chief executive officer of Canadian Manufacturers & Exporters will be the Hall of Fame's Honourary Chairman.
"Canada has a rich and vibrant manufacturing history. As the engine that drives our economy, manufacturing has played a vital role laying the foundation for the Canada of the 21st century," Beatty told a news conference in announcing the Hall of Fame.
Adds Beatty, "The establishment of the Canadian Manufacturing Hall of Fame will recognize those who play a vital role in shaping the industry, our economy and in essence, our way of life."
In the planning stage since 2002, the Canadian Manufacturing Hall of Fame's mission is to honour in perpetuity, Canadians who have contributed most significantly to the economic, political, educational or technological development of the Canadian manufacturing industry, adding value to Canada.
The Hall of Fame will help enhance public awareness of Canadian manufacturing's rich history and of its importance to Canadian and international markets.
Five colleges across Canada, along with the office of the Association of Canadian Community Colleges (ACCC), have agreed to act as centres for the nomination process and as information sources in their regions.
The five colleges include Cegep Limoilou, Quebec City, QC, Northern Alberta Institute of Technology, Edmonton, AB, Nova Scotia Community College, Halifax, NS, Selkirk College, Castlegar, BC, and St. Clair College, Windsor, ON.
Canadian Manufacturers and Exporters, with offices in every province, have also agreed to act as information centres.
The Canadian Manufacturing Hall of Fame will take nominations from across Canada in five categories and two divisions, historic (pre-1950) and contemporary (post-1950).
The recipients will be recognized for their significant contributions made to the Canadian manufacturing industry.
The Board will present up to 10 awards in this inaugural year at a gala dinner to be held in Windsor on November 25.
