Thread mills solve tapping problems PDF Print E-mail
The new Mini Thread mill line of solid carbide thread mills from Tyson Tool provides solutions to the problems normally associated with tapping in very small bores.
All mini mills are made from a high quality sub-micron carbide grade and coated with a TiAlN for maximum performance and finish. Standard sizes start as small as M1.6 or #0-80, which by design eliminate the constant worry of breaking taps in the workpiece. Threading in difficult materials up to 60 HRC is successfully achieved through the single point contact method, versus traditional tapping which fully engages the workpiece, leaving the tap prone to breakage. With reduced cutting forces, higher cutting speeds, and longer tool life, thread milling becomes a logical choice to improve machining efficiency and reduce tooling costs.
