New coating innovation introduced PDF Print E-mail
WALTER has introduced a PVD coating for its Tiger-tec cutting grades. The coating was created by applying aluminium oxide (Al2O3) to its inserts.
As a result of this innovation, WALTER is now capable of providing Tiger-tec cutting grades for most applications from stainless steel, to heat resistant alloys, super- and titanium alloys as well as steel and cast iron grades. Until now, aluminium oxide could be used only with CVD coatings. WALTER’s new cutting tool materials are particularly designed for use in the aerospace and power generation industries. The PVD Tiger can process titanium and titanium alloys successfully. By using aluminium oxide layers,  the new cutting tool material is very tough and resistant to elevated temperatures.
