Drills feature twisted coolant holes PDF Print E-mail
ISCAR has introduced a new family of DR drills which use new square inserts with four cutting edges. The new drills are designed with twisted coolant holes that pass through the drill flutes.
The new design leaves more room for the chips to flow out of the hole uninterrupted. The coolant holes do not pass through the center core of the drill, therefore, the drill is stronger and more resistant to torsion.  Along with the new drills, three new insert sizes have also been introduced. The new SOMX inserts in 05, 06 and 07 sizes are thicker than the former SOMT and XOMT 06 inserts. A new carbide grade, IC9080, has also been introduced. It is a coated, submicron substrate with a thick (16 µm), multilayer MTCVD coating comprising TiCN Al2O3 and TiN as the external layer.
