Lathe provides high transmission efficiency PDF Print E-mail
Mori Seiki’s NL Series of CNC lathes provides high transmission efficiency while dramatically increasing machining accuracy.

The milling motor of the NL Series is located inside the turret, directly coupled to the milling tool. This unique design eliminates the transmission losses and inherent vibration found in lathes that use a series of gears and belts to provide milling capabilities. When compared to conventional models, the direct-coupled milling motor aids in reducing tool spindle acceleration time by 2/3 and diminishing vibration and noise by 1/2. Performance is further improved through the use of a rigid triangle structure in the bed, the spindle, and the tailstock. The machine’s innovative design also improves accuracy by reducing heat dissipated into the turret to 1/10 of that found in a conventional lathe’s milling function.
