Canada lagging behind in innovation

Canada must increase its efforts in science, technology and innovation or it will be left behind by competitors in the global market, warns a recent report from Canada's Science, Technology and Innovation Council (STIC).

''Our report concludes that although Canada is improving, other countries are improving faster. Canada remains a solid mid-level performer, but given the importance of innovation to our future, this is not good enough. We need to set our ambitions higher in keeping with what Canadians are capable of achieving,'' said Dr. Howard Alper, chair of the STIC. ''We have a strong foundation and a robust research capacity but we need to conduct research and encourage entrepreneurship in ways that will create opportunities to translate knowledge into marketable assets.'' more...

Four New Toggle Clamps Offer Safety Locks

Carr Lane has introduced a variety of new toggle clamps with safety locks. Latch-action toggle clamps are available in five sizes, from 360 to 7500 lbs holding capacity, with a threaded U bolt for adjustability and a matching latch plate. Vertical-handle toggle clamps are available in three sizes, from 150 to 500 lbs holding capacity. These compact hold-down clamps have a unique finger-grip T handle and an open arm that provides adjustable spindle location. Horizontal-handle toggle clamps are available in two sizes, from 500 to 750 lbs holding capacity. These low-profile hold-down clamps also have an open arm that provides adjustable spindle location. And Push/Pull Toggle Clamps have a holding capacity of 2500 lbs. All Carr Lane toggle clamps have a comfortable handle grip, and are made of durable high-grade steel (many also available in stainless steel).
